Mount Baker from Padilla Bay - Aurora Bridge
Aurora Bridge, 167 feet above the water level of Lake Union. Officially called the George Washington Memorial Bridge, it opened on George Washington's 200th birthday in 1932. Between its construction and 2011, when 8-foot fences were added on either side of the pedestrian walkways, there were 230 known suicides here, a grim record exceeded only by the Golden Gate Bridge. Seattle's Space Needle, closed to visitors since mid-march, added a flag reading "#WeGotThisSeattle", to bolster the city's spirit during the Covid-19 pandemic. The flag is tattered due to a sudden intense hail storm on the afternoon of March 31.
